Lanthanide complexes as redox and ROS/RNS probes: A new paradigm that makes use of redox-reactive and redox non-innocent ligands

چکیده

Lanthanides complexes are indispensable in fields related to medicine and biology. Their success lies the great number of unpaired electrons (4f7 configuration Gd3+ ion) that makes them ideal contrasts agents for magnetic resonance imaging. On other hand their narrow emission bands long lifetime excited state provide unique luminescence properties. The aqueous solution chemistry lanthanides is dominated by (+III) oxidation under oxygenated atmosphere. This severely limits use as redox probes, not surprisingly very few redox-switches employing lanthanide ions were reported until 2010. A promising approach based on redox-reactive non-innocent ligands has recently emerged literature, which overcomes this limitation expands application monitoring. Herein ligand acts a redox-sensor either changing its or reacting with reactive oxygen (or nitrogen) species (ROS/RNS). Its response induces changes environment ion, reporter status. detection modification optical properties complexes, conventional spectroscopic techniques. We summarize review article recent advances burgeoning field, special emphasis biological relevant ROS, RNS

Redox activation of alkene ligands in platinum complexes with non-innocent ligands.

The reactivity of metal olefin complexes with non-innocent ligands (NILs) was examined. Treatment of PtCl(2)(diene) with the deprotonated catechol or aminophenol ligands afforded the corresponding Pt(NIL)(diene) complexes. The Pt((t)BA(F)Ph)(COD), Pt((t)BA(F)Ph)(nbd), and Pt(O(2)C(6)H(2)(t)Bu(2))(COD) (H(2)(t)BA(F)Ph = 2-(2-trifluoromethyl)anilino-4,6-di-tert-butylphenol, H(2)O(2)C(6)H(2)(t)Bu(...

Classical and non-classical redox reactions of Pd(II) complexes containing redox-active ligands.

Reactivity studies of a Pd(II)-verdazyl complex reveal novel ligand-centred reduction processes which trigger pseudo-reductive elimination at Pd. Reaction of the complex with water induces a ligand-centred redox disproportionation. The reduced verdazyl ligands can also be reversibly protonated.

Redox Potentials of Ligands and Complexes – a DFT Approach

A review of the limited literature concerned with theoretical ways to predict experimentally measured redox potentials of ligands and complexes is presented. Electrochemical and related DFT studies involving series of para-substituted nitrobenzenes and -diketone bidentate ligands are discussed. New studies involving ferrocenes and bimetallic complexes (containing both rhodium and iron) are addi...
